With the passing of Paul Walker in 2013, many were concerned about the future of the Fast and Furious movie franchise. Today we learn that while the name has been laid to rest, a new spin-off has been announced, titled "Hobbs and Shaw."
As the name implies, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will be reprising his role as Luke Hobbs, and Jason Statham will be returning for his role as Deckard Shaw. The Hollywood Reporter claims that the movie spin-off will hit theaters on July 26 of next year.
In many ways, this will be the spiritual successor to the Fast and Furious movies. It will take place in the same universe and will be written by Chris Morgan, who wrote "The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift," "Fast and Furious, Fast Five," "Fast & Furious 6," "Furious 7," and "The Fate of the Furious."
Actress Idris Elba will be joining the cast as well, serving as the film's villain. Though nothing else is known about the story at this time.
Given the current cast list and the writing background, this movie will more than likely meet expectations. Time will tell, though.
