The Twitter-savvy CEO Elon Musk has promised his fans that Tesla will begin production of an electric pickup truck after the Model Y crossover is done.

When a fan asked Musk for a pickup, he responded in kind.

I promise that we will make a pickup truck right after Model Y. Have had the core design/engineering elements in my mind for almost 5 years. Am dying to build it.

even more interesting is what he said after being asked about the size compared to an F150.

Similar total size. Maybe slightly bigger to account for a really gamechanging (I think) feature I’d like to add.

The Model Y, a hatchback variation of the Model X, is looking to reach production in 2019, alongside the Tesla Semi.

With the Model 3 hot in production, and the preorders for Tesla Semis growing more and more, their production queue has reached a considerable length. Musk is looking to have 5,000 Model 3s built a week by now, but they currently only achieving a few hundred. So things may be longer still.

With high ambitions with the Model Y, Semi, and Roadster combined with the less than desirable production rates, it's possible that some projects will be delayed later than expected. Whether that means the Roadster is going to be out later into the 20s, or the Model Y into 2020, remains unknown for now.
