Word of a dual motor Model 3 has been floating around for some time now. Last we heard, Tesla was aiming for "mid-2018" to produce one.

When asked about when one could expect to see this happen, Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded with a clarification that they need to achieve a production rate of 5,000 Model 3 vehicles per week. He follows that up with an estimation of July.

"We need to achieve 5k/week with Model 3 before adding complexity that would inhibit production ramp
. . .
So probably July"

Musk also aligned this release with an upcoming interior option, white. Currently, the only available interior is in black upholstery.

Dual motors mean all-wheel-drive, a slightly longer range, and more powerful acceleration compared to the single motor option, pushing rear-wheel-drive.

Even though Tesla failed to meet their production goals for the Model 3, they're still pushing around 2,000 Model 3s a week. At their current rate, the automaker might actually meet their goal of 5,000 in the next four month.

Specs for a dual motor option remain unknown, but we can assume they'll be a bit better than the current Model 3, at 271 horsepower.
