With all the attention towards electric vehicles (and the banning of combustion engines in the future) going on, it's easy to forget the potency of a diesel engine.
Our eyes are drawn to the Audi SQ7, one of their most powerful SUVs. It has a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 diesel engine, capable of 324kW and as much as 900Nm. To top it all off, Audi has fitted an electric supercharger into the SQ7 to eliminate lag. Audi claims that the SQ7 has a 0-62 of 4.9 seconds.
The drivers of Top Gear have decided to pit this powerful ride against a Ford Focus RS. The Focus has a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-pot capable of 257kW/440Nm, and an alleged 0-62 of 4.7 seconds.
You can watch the video below to see how these 2 fair against each other in a drag strip. Regardless of the winner, this goes to show that there is still some impressive potential with diesel engines.
