Fans of the BMW 8-Series were ecstatic when coupe line returned with the 2019 M850i xDrive luxury coupe last June. Now we learn that the line will be getting a Convertible option.

The discovery was made when BMW ran a hot-weather test in Nevada, "cloaking" the vehicle in standard car camo. The drive pit the prototype against temperatures as high as 122 degrees. It also is a great chance to see how the vehicle handles dust and gravel exposure.

After that, the Convertible made its way to the Hoover Dam. It wasn't for sightseeing, however. The powerful electromagnetics emanating from the hydro-electric powerplant has a history of messing with a car's electronics and safety systems. If a car is properly protected from the Dam, it'll be safe from just about any other magnetic scenarios the average driver may experience.

If we base this model off of what we know of the coupe, it'll have a CLAR modular platform with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 pushing 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.

Since this isn't a formal release, actual specs and pricing remain a mystery.
