To celebrate the vehicle's iconic history, Aston Martin is building a scarce 25 copies of the DB5, replicating the same specs as the original Goldfinger vehicle. Production is done alongside EON Productions, the film's production company, and Bond special effects artist Chris Corbould, in order to create the most authentic replica. For even more historical homage, the 25 DB5s will be built in Newport Pagnell, Aston Martin's Works heritage center. Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer said the following in a statement.
“To own an Aston Martin has long been an aspiration for James Bond fans, but to own a Silver Birch DB5, complete with gadgets and built to the highest standards in the very same factory as the original James Bond cars? Well, that is surely the ultimate collectors’ fantasy.”
Why would you need a special effects artist? Because every example will include a selection of spy accessories, such as rotating license plates. While we cannot confirm, we can only assume the ejector seat will be excluded.
Don't ask what color options there are. Silver Birch is the only answer, how it should be.
Delivery for the replicas will begin in 2020. While stated as 25, the automaker will also produce three more for special events: The Aston Martin production collection, the EON Productions collection, and for a charity auction. The pricing for customer examples sits at a heavy $3.5 million.
Aston Martin made a point to say that these vehicles will not be street legal upon delivery.
This is heartwarming news, especially when we learned that a long-lost DB5 was possibly found in a Saudi Arabian collector's abode.
