The Ferrari 412 wasn't a very popular vehicle, mostly due to their not-great look. As a result of this, the 412 became a fairly rare car by the present day. When the 400i and 365 GT4 experienced a similar fate, all 3 models became highly desired by collectors worldwide.
When you cant find one, what do you do? One enthusiast has hired Ares, the Modena coachbuilder, to recreate the 412 as a modern vehicle via a modified GTC4 Lusso. Ares is calling is Project Pony, and is offering the idea to the public. Make sure you can front the $872,470 asking price first.
Project Pony won't begin until they're finished with their current project, A Lamborghini Huracán-based idea called Project Panther. This leaves an estimated completion date for The GTC4 Lusso-made-412 around the end of 2018.
Internally, the vehicle will be a GTC4 Lusso, this includes the 2+2 seating. Ares' changes are entirely external, with a custom body design made of carbon fiber. Of course, the body will be a striking resemblance, though some liberties have been made. This means it will retain the GTC4 Lusso's 6.3-liter V-12 engine. This will make it capable of 680 horsepower in 4 wheel drive.
This news came alongside the opening of a new design studio from a former dealership in Modena, Italy. Ares has grown to become one of the best names in coach building that side of the pond, and with innovations like this, they will only continue to grow.
