The process wasn't as simple as walking up and asking to drive it. It was a special event referred to as the "Test Drive to the Unknown." Audi hid a number of key boxes inside of the Amazon Go physical store. Said keys unlocked a nearby A6 that the finder could go test drive. No spokespeople involved.
The drivers couldn't simply go wherever they like. Each vehicle had a special event it brought the driver to, ranging from photo shoots to personal concerts. It even went as extravagant as a 5-day trip to Munich, Germany, if you were the lucky one.
Vice president of Marketing at Audi of America described the program as a way to reach buyers in a new way.
"Amazon Go allowed us to experiment with a new kind of retail environment while transforming the test drive into an adventure."
Debuting at the past year's Geneva Motor Show, the 2019 A6 implemented a new level of technical luxury to the A-line, including an MMI Touch Response system that replaces the rotary dial and buttons. Users could also instruct the vehicle using a full QWERTY keyboard, or even with hand-written instructions. The 2019 A6 is on sale now with a base price of $59,895.
