The Nissan Altima is a safe reliable vehicle. The problem is: it hasn't much changed. The 2016 model is essentially the same as the 2012 model. While that may not seem like long, 6 years is quite the difference in car time. Thankfully, Nissan has announced a new generation 2019 Altima debut at this year's New York Auto Show.

For a while there we feared that the Altima was put on the back burner for Nissan's other projects (I'm looking at you Rogue Crossover). Current market trends are showing a decline in sedans with a rise in SUVs and crossovers. With the competition all releasing new-gen models of their own sedans, It started to look like a bad spot for the Altima. These fears were easily put to rest when the carmaker released a short video announcing the vehicle's debut next month.

So far we know nothing about the 2019 Altima, only that it's debuting on March 28. There will surely be a number of both feature and performance improvements to make it competitively viable. But its nothing more than a guessing game right now. Check back on March 28 for the followup.
