Mazda impressed us when it announced the Mazda 6 in 2014. It stood above the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry of the time. Now with both the Camry making remarkable improvements and the Accord exceeding them, Mazda has stepped out into the light once more to show why its the top dog with the 2018 Mazda 6.

Visually, the Mazda 6 looks relatively the same. There are some small changes, but nothing one would notice unless comparing side by side. What makes the Mazda 6 a cut above is the inside. Most trim levels have been refreshed, and they've added a new top-end Signature trim level. A combination of wood, leather, and faux suede give the cabin a luxury feel. As expected, the technology has been upgraded to fit with the times. This includes a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, and a larger infotainment display screen.

One major change is the new engine option. The base engine option is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, but now you will have the option to upgrade your Mazda 6 with a turbocharged engine used in the CX-9. This gives the new car 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. That's about 70bhp and 130 lb-ft more than the base model.

The new Mazda 6 will also feature cylinder deactivation, where a pendulum in the torque converter will help smoothen out vibrations caused by running on 2 cylinders. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, with a manual option for those who desire it. In order to compensate for the newfound power, Mazda has improved both the chassis and suspension. Regardless which engine you choose, it'll make for a smoother, quieter, and more comfortable.

Pricing has yet to be announced. We expect to hear more about that closer to its release in Spring 2018.
