It's no mystery that electric cars are the big thing right now, but they're also an expensive thing right now. While some companies are working to create more affordable electric cars, One 18-year-old Texas native didn't feel light waiting.

His name is Adam Lansing, and he has converted a derelict 1980 Toyota Celica into a pure battery electric vehicle. Lansing received the old car from their neighbor when they heard of his plan, one that would prove to be long and frustrating.

The idea sprouted from the constant irritation of his brother begging for gas money when he was 14. After 2 years of work, he managed to get the car running. It made it as far as his high school parking lot before dying later that day. After another 2 years to work out the kink, the electric Celica is now up and running reliably.

According to Lansing, the car had been rebuilt about 52 times before finding a formula that works. At this point, he wasn't alone in his endeavors. Core IV and Wayland’s Plasma Boy Racing offered a sponsorship in 2017, supplying a 30 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack.

With years of determination, Lansing has that electric vehicle he's been wanting. Now he is looking to take this idea and bring it to the world with Hawkeye Innovations, a company he started that does gas to electric conversions.

Do you think his brother bothers him for electricity money now?
