Often I find myself hindered by the restrictions of being human. I can't fly, I can't control elemental fire, and issues like that. Fortunately, Volkswagen is doing what they can to help mitigate my early limitations with their upcoming night vision technology.

The automaker's upcoming SUV, the Touareg, will feature an infrared camera on the front of the vehicle. This will allow the SUV to detect living creatures up ahead by detecting their heat signature. Any people or animals up to 400 feet away will appear on the dash's video feed, highlighted in yellow.

As the detected entity draws near, the yellow will change to red, the vehicle will issue a sound warning, and the car will pre-set the brakes, should you need to hit the brakes hard.

The Touareg also features an LED matrix for headlights. This allows the vehicle to shine light onto a person in the danger area when traveling more than 37 mph. This feature only works outside of urban areas, where it will only spotlight them to avoid blinding them.

This shows that cars are capable of detecting pedestrians in complete darkness. Maybe it Uber didn't rush their self-driving program and had this, there wouldn't have been that fatality earlier this year.
