Toyota has always been a fan of hybrid car development, but it seems like they might be changing the pace pretty soon. The car manufacturer is starting production on brand new solid-state batteries, which will be used in their future cars. These batteries are much more beneficial than lithium-ion battery packs in a number of ways.

To start with, solid-state batteries use solid electrolytes, unlike current battery packs that use liquid electrolytes. This makes the battery much safer and more stable. The solid-state batteries would only take a few minutes to charge, rather than a few hours, and they will be able to hold their charge for longer to give you better range.

The solid-state batteries are also smaller, weigh less, and aren't very sensitive to temperature, which is really nice for people who live in areas with extreme cold or heat. Toyota is expecting to have everything ready by the early 2020's. Even though they are just a bit late to the fully electric game, they're definitely jumping in feet first.
