Shipping for the limited production Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has begun, according to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

Dodge is pushing for this to be their first muscle car that is also a street-legal production drag car. The 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 engine is capable of up to 840 horsepower. It has even been certified as the world’s fastest quarter-mile production vehicle by the National Hot Rod Association.

While the legality is there, some don't agree with it personally. Automotive News is calling for the Demon to be banned from streets in an editorial they did in April.

"[the car] is so inherently dangerous to the common safety of motorists that its registration as a road-worthy automobile should be banned,"

This prompted Tim Kuniskis, Fiat Chrysler North America's head of passenger cars responsible for the Chrysler, Dodge, SRT and Fiat brands to speak on the issue.

“The people who bought a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon are performance enthusiasts to the core, and having a custom car with accessories that improve overall performance is critical,”

Tests showed the Demon is able to achieve the quarter mile in 9.65 seconds, reaching speeds of 140mph. It can go from zero to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds. While this by no means is a weak car, it does sufficiently comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards to legally be registered for on-road use.

Only 3,300 Demons will be made from their plant in Ontario. Pricing starts at $84,995.
