It's been a solid 20 years since the BMW 8 Series Coupe made its way to the States. But like many streaks in automotive history, it too has been broken. The two-door beauty has officially debuted and will be hitting the market this fall.

We had an idea of this happening. BMW teased the model last year with the 8 Series concept. The production model looks a touch different, however. the body is low-slung with large air intakes and a bold front spoiler. The production line also features LED laser headlights, the slimmest headlights we have ever seen on a BMW. The top has double bubble contouring like that of classic race cars and the back has trapezoidal twin exhaust tailpipes. Holding it all together - or holding it up, that is - are twenty-inch M light alloy wheels.

The launch model will come with an M850i xDrive variant. This will give it a revised 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that pushes 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. BMW claims a zero to 60 time of 3.6 seconds. If true, this makes it much quicker than the 7 Series, with a 445-hp twin-turbo V-8 reaching 60 mph in 4.3 seconds.

Expect an eight-speed automatic transmission with a wider gear ratio moving all that kick into an all-wheel-drive system with a rear-wheel bias. Add all of this together and you can achieve a top speed of around 155 mph.

No pricing information is available at this time. Expect more on that this fall closer to its launch date.
