If you bought a Tesla Model S or X between February 2016 and October 2016, your car might be suffering from a bit of a problem. Tesla has recently noticed a manufacturing issue with a part on the parking brakes on roughly 53,000 of their vehicles. While they do believe that only a very small number of the 53,000 are being affected, Tesla has issued a voluntary recall to replace the electric parking brakes.

The concern stems from a small gear in the parking brake that was manufactured by a third-party supplier called Brembo. By Tesla’s estimates, this improperly manufactured gear could be affecting four to five percent of the 53,000 cars. Since the gear has no impact on the regular braking system of the car, it doesn’t represent a direct safety risk. If the gear were to break, the car could remain in park until it is replaced.

This definitely isn’t a dangerous issue, but it could be very troublesome if your car has the faulty gear. When I drive my car, I tend to enjoy when it moves. With the faulty gear, you might not have much of an option. Tesla will begin to replace the brakes right now, but they expect the process to last until October of this year while Brembo increases their production of the part.
