The Porsche 919 Hybrid race car is truly a monumental beast. The automaker is acknowledging the vehicles achievements in the recent World Endurance Championship with a special version, known as the 919 Evo.

Since this version isn't limited by motorsport regulations, this care is capable of even more than before. Since the model has retired from racing, it's not on its way to circuits and lap records. Though it still found time to visit New York City.

This wasn't entirely a spur-of-the-moment decision. Porsche first came to America through New York, after all. Even so, seeing a 919 move through Manhattan is quite a sight to see.

The 919 Evo didn't travel alone, either. A Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid joined it for its trip throughout the city. Local bystanders likely heard the car before they saw it, thanks to the 2.0-liter turbocharged V-4 engine underneath the hood.

After some sight-seeing, the 919 Evo will be making it's way to the Nürburgring, and then throughout Europe. It also has plans for Asia, as well as the Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer. Come Autumn, the vehicle will return to the States, where it will run the Laguna Seca in California.

New York natives are a lucky bunch this time around.
