Electrification is all the rage. People want electric cars. Right now, these vehicles use electric motors to generate torque and horsepower. But a new electric car startup is looking to put the electric motors IN the wheels.

Swedish startup NEVS announced a new acquisition of Protean Electric, a British in-wheel electric motors. This new ownership will lead to the in-wheel electric motor, known as the Protean Drive, to be a part of future NEVS vehicles.

The announcement was primarily business in nature, not revealing much about the function or specifications of the motor. Or even how it works exactly. As such, we're more likely to see it applied to high performance, non-consumer vehicles. It'll be a good while before it comes to a production car.
