McLaren is always looking for new ways to improve its powerful vehicle lines. While most work is done under the hood, this new part will be under everything. The automaker has started with its new carbon fiber monocoque tub that will underpin future models.

The automaker built a new plant to produce these tubs, dubbed the McLaren Composites Technology Center. And on Friday, the plant rolled out the first batch of tubs. Not quite ready for production models, they'll instead be using these parts for crash testing purposes.

The center will also act as a research and development center with a focus on creating lighter vehicles. Weight is one of the greatest limitations to hyper performance and McLaren wants to resolve that. The cultural shift toward electric vehicles also means cars will have bigger, heavier batteries, an additional weight that will need to be accounted for.

To us, the consumer, this is just another hidden piece of a luxury performance vehicle. But in the grand scheme of things, it's an important step forward in creating a new generation of amazing vehicles.
