McLaren has finally unveiled their spiritual successor to the legendary F1 Hypercar: The Speedtail.

The streamlined vehicle has been long anticipated, regarded both in and out of house as the future F1. Built with a central driving position and hybrid powertrain, only 106 examples will be built. These aspects all match that of the original F1.

It doesn't conform to rival hypercar competition either. While the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Mercedes-AMG One were focused for the race track, the Speedtail is intended to be "a Hyper GT," as McLaren calls it. This was the same philosophy as the F1, which only build track versions when requested. Don't think it's a weak vehicle, though. The Speedtail is capable of a hefty 1,035 horsepower.

The shape is sure to cause some discussion amongst the hypercar community. McLaren has been reconsidering many aspects of design, maximizing aerodynamic drag efficiency and reducing weight. The Speedtail features a carbon fiber monocoque structure and plenty of carbon fiber body parts. Aluminum suspension and carbon-ceramic brake rotors help reduce the weight. Their efforts have proven fruitful, given that the Speedtail is the fasted McLaren road car yet.

Unfortunately, part of that goal means the vehicle won't be available in the United States. The vehicle uses rear-view cameras instead of mirrors to reduce lag.

McLaren will begin delivering Speedtails to those who managed to catch a build slot in early 2020. Each one costs approximately $2.24 million, with heavy customization available.
