Earlier today, McLaren announced their spiritual successor to the F1 series. Matching the flowing, streamlined design, the series is called the Speedtail.

The project was codenamed the BP32. Defined as a hyper GT, only 106 examples are planned for production. This matches the original McLaren F1s first run. Unsurprisingly, all build slots have already been accounted for, despite the $2.1 million price tag associated with it. It intends to be delivered late next year, with a debut later this year.

Each Speedtail will come with plenty of personalization by the MSO division. To solidify the uniqueness of the purchase, owners will even get a special sculpture.

Test cars are already running the tracks in Europe, though hidden under the body of a 720S to hide what's under the hood. This also covers up the car's three-seat layout, which imitates the famous central driving position from the F1.

The Speedtail's performance more than meets its expectations as a future F1. With a top speed of 243 mph thanks to a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 with an electric drive system, this is McLarens fasted road car ever. It's the most powerful car too, with more than 903 horsepower.

McLaren has made faster vehicles on private tracks, however. The Senna and P1 GT-R are two cars by the brand that could go toe to toe with the Speedtail.
