A new Lexus ES design is coming for the 2019 model year, and thanks to a leaked image on the Arabic website, Almuraba, we get our first glance of its new form.

The image, seen above, shows us the front portion of the new ES. It has a noticeably sharper design, giving it a sportier look compared to the current models.

Some non-image-based information we can parse is that it'll have the same size and proportions to the most recent Toyota Camry. This is because the ES shares a platform with the model, which is a stretched version of Toyota's TNGA modular design. The new platform should mean a lighter and lower ES, resulting in better handling.

As for the powertrain, the ES 350 will have a 3.5-liter V-6 and 8-speed automatic pushing out 301 horsepower. Expect to also see an ES 300h hybrid option, potentially with a rear wheel electric motor. This is comparable to the UX subcompact crossover Lexus is offering.

We'll see a fair bit more of the new ES toward the back half of this year. It's due for a debut at the 20118 Beijing auto show, which is taking place on April 25.

Production in the U.S. will presumably take place at the Toyota plant in Georgetown, Kentucky.

The Lexus ES is the third most popular manufacturer model, right below the RX and NX crossovers. The ES sold nearly 50,000 units last year, which is excellent compared to the similar-sized GS, which sold 8,000.
