The current Jaguar XJ sedan has held it's last on Friday as production for the model comes to an end. But this doesn't mean it's completely over for the line. The XJ is marked to return as an electric.

The 2019 Jaguar XJ was originally produced at the Castle Bromwich plant in the United Kingdom. Now the same plant is being transformed into a new EV plant, which will produce batteries, electric motors, and electric vehicles. This includes a redesigned Jaguar XJ sedan with a battery electric powertrain.

Like many other Land Rover models, the new XJ will be built on the Modular Longitudinal Architecture platform. Built for multi-purpose construction, the MLA platform supports hybrid and fully battery configurations. It will hit the markets for the first time this year with the Land Rover Defender.

Confirmed details about the redesigned XJ are scarce outside of this. There are rumors that it will be more of a hatchback than a sedan, but we won't know for sure until the vehicle is formally revealed sometime in 2020.
