Nearly everyone has a smartphone in the modern age. And if the signs are to be trusted, electric vehicles are going to be the norm of the future. Hyundai and Kia are looking to bring both aspects together, allowing EV drivers to modify their car's performance using their phone.

According to the automakers, drivers could control the ignition, acceleration and deceleration speeds, max speed, and maximum power output from the motors. Each driver could have their own settings, which they can share with each other. They assure that the data will not be misused either since it uses blockchain technology.

If drivers aren't the most knowledgeable about driving, the smartphone app can suggest certain settings based on road conditions. It can also automatically optimize the vehicle for the distance traveling and the energy needed to get there.

According to the automakers, they chose to do this for electric vehicles because none of the changeable settings will affect the vehicle's carbon emissions (which is zero).

Hyundai Motor Group has the Kona Electric coming, while Kia is working on a Soul EV and Niro EV. You can expect this to be a feature on these vehicles when they release in the near future.
