The idea of an A.I. assistant is a fairly new one for society. It started with Siri on your phone, then Alexa in your home. Now Honda is looking to add SoundHound to your cars.

The automaker has recently integrated the Houndify platform to their systems, with the intent of developing an AI companion for your personal vehicle. The Houndify platform is part of SoundHound, an audio and speech recognition company founded in 2005. The company specializes in voice recognition, language understanding, and search technology. They're most well known for the SoundHound app, which can identify music playing nearby by listening, though they also deal in voice assistants.

SoundHound is an increasingly familiar name in vehicle voice assistants. Hyundai and Kia both have integrated the SoundHound technology to develop their own vehicle helpers. Since each is developed by the automaker over top of the Houndify platform, each will provide a unique experience.

For the longest time, in-car assistants have been less than ideal in terms of effectiveness. Hopefully, this new generation of speech-understanding technology will lead to a more fluid and enjoyable AI assistant.
