It felt like just this morning I was talking about how more cars need treads. It seems my prayers have been answered, this time by GMC. Earlier today they announced the Sierra All Mountain concept. A truck truly built for winter.

This taiga traverser is based on the 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali. The All Mountain concept replaces the four-wheel drive with treads akin to that of a tank. These treads are from Mattracks and will allow the All Mountain concept to handle any kind of terrain that dares get in its way.

With ambition like this, it needs the power to back it up. The All Mountain concept is powered by a 6.6-liter turbodiesel V-8 engine pushing out 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. All of this is distributed to the treads by an Allison 1000 6-speed automatic transmission.

Some other bells and whistles include underbody LED lights, snowboard racks, a RIGID E-Series 30-inch light bar, a soft roll-up tonneau cover from Advantage, and an amplifier and dual pod speaker setup from Thule.

Detailed specs, pricing, and release date remain unconfirmed for now. This winter warrior will be on display this season at Vail at Vail Resorts, Inc. It will be on display instead of tearing up the slopes, unfortunately.
