Ford is working on a line of fully electric F-Series pickup trucks in order to compete against Tesla and other EV startups.

This reveal comes from Ford president of global markets Jim Farley, who confirmed the plan on Wednesday at the Deutsche Bank Global Automotive Conference in Detroit.

The automaker had previously expressed plans for a hybrid F-Series, namely the F-150 pickup. But this will be the first we've heard of any full electrification. According to Farley, this will help "futureproof" the F-Series, Ford's most profitable line. They sell over a million units annually, after all.

Ford has been a bit late to the party, unfortunately. While they have no specs to show, we've already seen comparable models come from EV startups like Rivian and Atlis. Take the Atlis XT for example. It has a 5,000-pound payload rating, 35,000 poind tow rating, 15 inches of ground clearance, and power tool power support.

We can expect to see more information about Ford's EV F-Series next month during the 2019 Chicago Auto Show.
