Automakers are prepared to offer a slew of incentives to folks looking to buy a new vehicle. Sometimes they are tax write-offs, sometimes its improved warranty programs. Dodge is taking a more unorthodox approach. They'll give you cash money for every degree of horsepower your car has.

The brand announced a new incentive program on Thursday that will offer higher dollar figures the more horsepower the purchased vehicle has. These "power dollars" apply to any 2019 Challenger, Charger, and Durango purchased after August 1, Dodge will offer the buyer $10 for every degree of horsepower the vehicle has.

Take the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, for example. It has 797 horsepower, so it will grant the buyer a $7,970 cash allowance. In turn, the 305-hp Challenger SXT would only grant a $3,050 allowance.

“Dodge has more horsepower than anyone else, and we want to share it and give those who have always wanted more the ability to get more.”

Tim Kuniskis, head of passenger cars at FCA North America

I can appreciate the creativity of this promotion, but I'll stick to my 150-hp Chrysler for now.
