What could be more beautiful than a Porsche 959? The answer lies in the hands of Scotts Valley, California-based sports and race car restorer Canepa Design. The group has been restoring 959s for ages, but they're working on their greatest project yet, the Canepa Design Porsche 959SC.

Alas, only 50 examples of the 959SC. This is for a number of reasons. The first, and more obvious, reason is that there's a rather limited supply of unmodified 959s still in circulation. The second is that each example will be a complete restoration, from the bare metal outward.

The 959 is an admittedly old vehicle. Canepa has worked hard to help offset the effects of time. They will start with a preowned 959. They will then strip it down to the very last bit. Each individual piece will be restored, including recoating parts when necessary. It takes a reported 500 hours of work on the car even before it enters the painting phase.

Under the hood, you'll find a new header design with a stainless-steel exhaust system. This helps increase flow and decrease turbo lag. Not to mention how nice it'll sound. All auxiliary systems have been upgraded to support the stratospheric power levels, including the entire transmission.

The cabin has received a makeover of equal proportion, as well. The original leather and carpet are removed from the car, measured and then recreated via hand-made templates. Many of the electrical components, including dash aspects, are replaced with items from the Porsche Classic department. This process alone is a 300-hour endeavor.

This is the pinnacle of Canepa's capabilities. The Canepa Design Porsche 959SC will be a jaw-dropping vehicle. Unfortunately, it's not within my budget, that's for sure.
