Boeing has recently completed their first successful flight with an autonomous passenger air vehicle, AKA the flying car.

The aero company's project, the PAV, aims to create personal air vehicles that can transport passengers to their locations without the need of an operator.

Last Tuesday, the company tested the vehicle in Manassas, Virginia. While it hadn't gone anywhere, the electric air car manages to lift itself off the ground and hover in place before setting itself back down. This is a remarkable achievement, given that they were only working with conceptual designs just last year.

This is only the beginning, however. The PAV still has to transition from hovering to forward and backward motion, actual airborne flight, and recognizing and reacting to potential hazards in the sky, such as towers, poles, or other flying machines.

Boeing NeXt is spearheading the project alongside subsidiary Aurora Flight Sciences.

Maybe we will have flying cars after all.
