New life has been breathed into the BMW M3 series as the automaker confirms a redesigned, seven generation for the sedan line.

BMW plans to unveil the new series on October 2 at the 2018 Paris auto show. But to satiate us until then, they've released a teaser shot of the vehicle covered by a sheet. Though covered, we can make out the outline of the vehicle's grille, the shape of the headlights, as well as door handle lights and a puddle lamp.

Prior to this, the automaker released a short video that highlighted certain aspects of the line's assembly at the production plant in Dingolfing, Germany. We can see a glimpse of the interior, as well as it's digital instrument setup, in the video.

Due later this year as a 2019, the new M3 series will be followed by a Sport Wagon variant and a high-performance model. BMW wanted to make a point to set a new standard for sport sedans, particularly in regards to handling. To make this happen, the suspension, steering, brakes, and other key handling components have been replaced with significantly different pieces to improve performance. The line will also use the CLAR modular platform, which first debuted on the 2016 M7 series.

Powertrain information remains largely unknown at this time. Reports state that one unit will have an inline-4 that BMW claims is their most powerful one yet. Based on this, we can assume at least 248 horsepower, compared to the 330i's specs using the same engine.
