BMW appears to be working on some performance improvements, namely in the form of a new V-8 engine.

According to a source from BMW Blog, a new engine will be introduced in the next M5 CS model, pushing its power about that of the current competition.

Retaining the hot-V turbocharger configuration, the supposed engine will be more compact than the current 4.4-liter design while both pushing more power and supporting full electrification technologies.

The source claims that the engine will go public sometime in the next two to three years. Time will tell if they're right.
