Apple always likes to look like their on the forefront of modern technology. They're making efforts toward developing an autonomous vehicle, after all. Now the tech company has patented another automotive feature: headlights that highlight road hazards.

They call it the "System and Method for Light and Image Projection." The system's main purpose is to mark road hazards and other important information on the road. The patent was registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday, complete with diagrams of the system and how it works.

It uses a combination of headlights and the windshield to aid the driver. The system analyzes roadside data, and directs light to notable areas with a process they call the "illuminated indicator." The patent also details how the headlights can adjust themselves dynamically to provide the best illumination on the road.

The second part of this system is to use a smart windshield to notify the driver of important situations. The information would be provided on a heads-up display. One example provided is that the windshield could outline a pedestrian hidden in the darkness.

Should the project prove effective (and affordable), then it is a welcome one.
