The Volkswagen Touareg is a lovely vehicle, one that has been gradually becoming the automaker's flagship car. VW revealed a redesigned Touareg on Friday at a special ceremony in Beijing, further solidifying the companies presence in China.

This will mark the third generation for the model. With it, we see a wider looking body. Which makes sense, given its 192 inches long, 3 inches longer than the previous model. And yet, it's lighter than it used to be, weighing nearly 233 pounds less than before. This is primarily thanks to the MLB platform that underpins the vehicle. Seen in such vehicles as the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga, and Lamborghini Urus, the platform improves air suspension, rear-wheel steering and roll stabilization.

Like with any redesign, we see an improved interior. Digital screens serve as both the dash and an infotainment hub, combining into what VW is calling the "Innovision Cockpit." The driver will also be aided by such features as emergency braking, driver fatigue warning, and a night vision camera.

Under the hood, we find either a 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine pushing as much as 282 horsepower, or a 3.0-liter V-6 gasoline engine with 335 hp. A plug-in hybrid has been announced for Chinese markets, with no word yet on expansion.

Expect your standard 8-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive. A special off-road option will be available, which adds extra driving modes, a larger fuel tank, and underbody protection.

The Touareg will be coming to Europe first this summer. Unfortunately, we don't expect to see it enter the U.S., given the local VW division dropped the previous Touareg from their American lineup in order to focus on the Atlas.
